Can bespoke joinery add value to your property?

To meet increasing demand the Biker Contracts in-house bespoke joinery team has moved to a new state of the art joinery workshop

One could be excused for thinking that interest in house refurbishments and home improvements have disappeared if you believe all the newspaper reports of gloom and doom in the property market. However Biker Contracts, a family firm based in the market town of Leyburn, believe that this is not the case. They are meeting increasing demands for their bespoke joinery products by moving their long established joinery team to a purpose built, state of the art new joinery workshop measuring in excess of 6000, sq ft. The new premises, fitted with the latest machinery, and with the in-house team of craftsmen led by workshop manager Mark Thompson, will allow increased production of their large range of high quality standard and bespoke joinery products.

For 40 years Tony Biker has been progressively building a multi faceted company with a reputation for quality, now employing over 100 people and with the assistance of his three sons: Matt, Ben and Sam, the company has grown into a successful business providing numerous services throughout the North East and Yorkshire.

The joinery division of Biker Contracts is directed by Ben Biker. ‘We have found that there has been a turn away from UPVC windows as people have realised that traditional wooden sash windows are a far superior option, not only are they hard wearing and repairable, they also give the house a traditional and quality finish. People buying quality period properties do not want to compromise the appearance with UPVC doors and windows, replacing them with traditional timber units can greatly enhance the final finish and charm of the house.’

The resurgence in popularity in wooden windows and doors has meant increased demand for not only sash windows, but also casement and French windows and all types of doors. ‘With the downturn in the property market, we have found that customers who at one time might have considered moving to larger premises are now making the most of their existing property and are not only improving the general appearance with new windows and doors, but also remodelling the interior with bespoke staircases and purpose built cupboards, and in some cases adding additional space in the form of conservatories and garden rooms, and because of our unique bespoke service we can manage the project from design to completion, it couldn’t be simpler.’
